Inspired by the work of legendary author Octavia Butler (whose novel Parable of the Sower is highlighted on the spirituality page of this LibGuide), Octavia's Brood is a speculative fiction anthology that focuses on the radical imagination of activists and organizers. A total of 20 stories are included and range in speculative genres, from fantasy to horror. While this collection's stories aren't necessarily solarpunk aesthetically, the idea of using speculative fiction to create more positive futures certainly falls under the scope of solarpunk.
While this seventeen story fiction anthology is firmly in the solarpunk genre, it makes sure to describe the stories within as "not dull utopias--they grapple with real issues." A reading of "Fyrewall" by Stefani Cox, which jumps into a near-future California community protected from wildfires only by a gigantic wall, was featured on the podcast Levar Burton Reads.

Kristine Ong Muslim is the author of nine books of fiction and poetry, including the short story collections Age of Blight (Unnamed Press, 2016), Butterfly Dream (Snuggly Books, 2016), and The Drone Outside (Eibonvale Press, 2017), as well as the poetry collections Lifeboat (University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, 2015), Meditations of a Beast (Cornerstone Press, 2016), and Black Arcadia (University of the Philippines Press, 2017).
